Common Core Math: Grade 5

In fifth grade, students add, subtract, multiply and divide with multi-digit whole numbers, decimals and fractions. Students simplify and evaluate expressions with parentheses using the order of operations. The concept of the coordinate grid is introduced. Students learn to plot ordered pairs as points on the coordinate grid and use plotting as a tool for visualizing numerical patterns. Students also categorize shapes, convert between units of measurement and compute volumes of rectangular prisms.
